W2 Energy bets big on a new use for solar energy

W2 Energy, one of America’s many contenders reaching for the answer to the energy crisis, recently bought two patents for something called “Sun Ray” energy, which makes hydrogen out of little but sunlight and water. If the Sun Ray has the effectiveness W2 is hoping it does, it may just be the right answer to the concerns of dwindling non-renewable energy reserves.

The patents show a glass container filled with water, and then the reaction that occurs when concentrated solar energy separates the hydrogen and oxygen molecules. The process, heavily tested by its creators, has a reported efficiency rate of 12.8%, which is an incredibly high number for the relatively low price tag of this technology. W2 hopes to turn this concept in to an easily adaptable process of producing energy. The cells that store the hydrogen would essentially power anything adapted to handle it, which, in today’s society, is most everything.

As America’s fuel reserves and our diplomatic relations to get more slowly dwindle, this new technology may just be the push we need to turn the United States in to a sustainable, renewable, fully powered country. Unfortunately, this process is still just a concept. Without a proper infrastructure network, this idea would not be sustainable for the country.
