A different kind of green for your St. Patrick’s Day

It is a well-established tradition to pinch someone for not wearing green on Saint Patrick’s Day. In Lawrenceville, New Jersey, they might consider taking up pinching people for not thinking green, too. The local school system joined forces with the Lawrenceville Green Team, and  invited Lawrenceville residents to their energy expo held at the Lawrenceville High School on St. Patrick’s Day. Included in the usual presentations reminding people to turn off lights and to trade in that old power hog of a washing machine were tips and tricks on getting the most out of an energy sustainable transportation system. Lawrenceville residents and green planners alike were excited for the big event.
One such exhibit demoed electric motor bicycles, and how to easily put one together from virtually any bicycle you might have in your garage. Using the pedaling action, it doesn’t even need gasoline. Yes, the car in your garage will get you through the commute without much issue, but an electric bicycle can do the same job with no gasoline, and even provide you a little exercise in the process!

Presentations offered important reasons to go green in certain aspects of life, and also advice on how to achieve those goals. Seminars on insulation installation and the dangers of installing it incorrectly went right alongside the booth explaining why buying your groceries from local farmers just might be saving the environment in the same action.

It’s always inspiring to see even the small towns taking a step towards creating a green tomorrow for future generations, and combining it with a holiday really seemed to make the community a little more interested in this very important issue.
